A native of Danbury, Connecticut and a current student at the University of Rhode Island, Aidan Garvey’s life has always surrounded sports.
Aidan knew he wanted to work in the sports industry from the age of 10, and grew from announcing Madden games on his basement TV to calling NCAA basketball games in The Barclay’s Center, Capital One Arena, Mohegan Sun Arena and various collegiate athletics sites across the Northeast.
Aidan takes pride in his versatility in the sports world, gaining experience in his collegiate journey in play-by-play broadcasting, written and multi-media journalism, team leadership and media relations.
As a play-by-play broadcaster, Aidan currently serves as one of the Sports Directors for WRIU 90.3 FM, the student-led radio station at URI. In this role, Aidan not only assembles and coordinates broadcast teams, but guides younger members on broadcasting technique and handles logistical situations with sports information staff at the University.
Aidan also currently is fulfilling and internship with ESPN+ at URI, and has been calling soccer, volleyball, basketball, lacrosse, baseball and softball games on the network since September of 2022.
Aidan spent the summer of 2024 with the Ocean State Waves of the New England Collegiate Baseball League as their Play-by-Play Broadcaster and Director of Media Relations. In his time with the Waves, Aidan called over 40 games in the span of two months while traveling with the team and handling inter-league relations with other organizations. For his work, Aidan was selected to be a broadcaster for the league’s All-Star game at the historic Muzzy Field in Bristol, CT.
As a written journalist, Aidan wrote for the Good Five Cent Cigar Newspaper from January of 2022 to December of 2024, holding a staff writer role for five semesters. In his time with the publication, Aidan wrote a website-record 124 sports stories, covering various games as well as athletes and coaches across the University.
In terms of his multi-media experience, Aidan had the privilege to shadow the sports staff at WPRI Channel 12 in East Providence, Rhode Island as one of their interns. During his internship, Aidan assisted the department in their coverage of local high school football, the New England Patriots, as well as the URI and Providence College men’s basketball teams. In addition to shadowing the professional multi-media journalists in their day-to-day tasks, Aidan was able to practice on-camera news stand-ups and anchor in the WPRI studio.
